This is an early J8 from the first batch with serial number 2543. Pictures courtesy of Bernd Küpper. The case, dial and hands are all original and the movement has only the number engraved.

The first series-produced pocket watch by Junghans.
A hint in the magazin "Die Uhrmacherkunst" 1923 Nr. 8 page 91:
"1908 erschien "J8" die Qualitätsuhr, eine 18''' elfsteinige Uhr mit aufgebogener Spirale, die auf +- 20 Sekunden hängend und liegend regulierte. Diese Uhr, die in Posten von je 10000 Stück hergestellt wurde, war die eigentliche Lehruhr für die Massenerzeugung. J9 war eine 15 steiniges Brückenwerk mit aufgebogener Invar-Kompensationsspirale und Nickelunruh."
“In 1908 the “J8” appeared as a quality watch, an 18''' eleven jewels with a curved up spiral, which was adjusted to + – 20 seconds, suspended and lying. This clock, which was produced in batches of, 10000 pieces, was the actual training clock for mass production. J9 was a fifteen jewels bridge movement with a curved up Invar compensating spiral and a nickel balance.”
