My Junghans ATO wall clock from 1955.

I own a Junghans ATO from 1958, which happens to be my second one. This particular model was produced exclusively between 1958 and 1960. I was fortunate to acquire this clock at a low price in 2015, and it only required a routine service to get it running smoothly. Over time, the tension that had built up during manufacturing caused the coil covers to become damaged. However, as the years passed, the tension gradually released itself. To restore the clock's aesthetic appeal, I took the initiative to 3D print new coil covers and painted them with a golden finish.

In March 2023, an unexpected incident occurred when the pendulum of my clock suddenly started increasing its amplitude to the point where it struck the coils, resulting in a loud banging noise. To this day, I remain perplexed about how such an occurrence is even possible. Despite seeking assistance from my friends on the Uhrenwerkstattforum, we have been unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue. I enlisted the help of a specialist who utilized an oscilloscope to inspect the electronic components. We made several attempts to resolve the problem, including changing the transistor, capacitor, and battery, but unfortunately, these efforts did not rectify the peculiar behavior. As a last resort, a 2 kOhm resistor was added to the battery cable in an attempt to reduce the pendulum's amplitude. At present, in June 2023, the clock is operating under this modified setup for testing purposes, although the root cause of the initial problem remains elusive.
